Company History

Our first Minuteman Press store located in Manhasset, NY opened for business in 1981, as one of the earliest adopters of the franchise printing concept on Long Island. The business specialized in printing one and two-color envelopes, letterheads, and forms.

After fourteen years of successful operation and considering the fact that technology was starting to radically change the printing industry, the first owner of our franchise decided to retire. Les Forrai, the current President of our company was looking for a change in career after spending 25 years serving the public in retail and the limousine business.

"I purchased the business because I saw an exciting future with new computer and copier technology on the horizon," said Les. "It also appealed to me to continue serving the public and local businesses within the local community." He took the Minuteman Press International training and business management course in Farmingdale in 1996 and after a few weeks of on the job training, began operating the franchise.

Les hit the ground running and immediately began the process of radically upgrading the business. He moved the original store in Manhasset to 407 Plandome Road, the former location of Multi-Copy Printers. They had recently closed their doors after 27 years of business. It was a larger and more centrally located retail space. He added a computer with a "state of the art" 17" monitor, a postscript laser printer and a 100 copy-per-minute commercial copier.

Under Les's leadership, Minuteman Press of Manhasset became one of the fastest-growing print firms in the area during the 1990's, growing by more than 25% in our first year of operation. "Most of our success and notoriety was a direct result of our super-fast turnaround, commitment to efficiency by keeping up with the latest technology, dedication to working directly with community and charitable organizations, and a steadfast philosophy of putting our customers needs first."

Michael Forrai, Les's son, started working part time in the family business when he was only 16 years old and eventually became partner and the General Manager of the company.

In 2005, Minuteman accelerated its growth process by purchasing Creative Expressions, Long Islands premier invitation and fine stationery boutique. The name of the business was eventually changed to Plandome Paperie and now is an integral part of our Manhasset location. "This acquisition gave us the ability to serve the printing needs of residential as well as business customers."

In 2008, we added to our expansion by purchasing the Minuteman Press in Baldwin, New York. Baldwin quickly became our primary production facility and in late 2012, was moved to our new expanded facility to Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream, New York. This move made it easy for us to serve all of Nassau County with free pickup and delivery.

In 2014 we again added to our company by purchasing the Minuteman Press franchise in Island Park, NY.
